As an artist of the spoken word and Alternative dance music, The Doc BongoTM has been deeply affected by the writings of Zora Neal Hurston and her authentification of the Southern dialect, its roots in slave culture, and its connection to modern slang.  His rifts are filled with words designed to deliver messages in the Southern historical form of jokes, lies and stories.

The Doc BongoTM is also an ethnomusicologist, recording artist, and percussionist who specializes in membrainaphones known as bongos.  Drawing strongly on influences from percussionist Potato, saxophonist Clarence (Luqman) Thomas, trumpeter Robert Williams, and lyricist Oscar Brown Jr., and recognizing his debt to a multitude of Jazz, Rock, and R&B musicians, The Doc BongoTM creates a unique style of music that combines percussion, funk, jazz and R&B rhythms.  His music is designed to serve as a psychotherapeutic tool for relaxation, empowerment, and dance as it preserves a rich, historical form of American music.

The Doc BongoTM earned his Masters degree from Hunter College School of Social Work, where he majored in administration and minored in casework.  He also holds a Bachelors degree in psychology from York College , where he focused on African-American history and the Black family.  He is a student of psychotherapy and has a private practice in New York City .
